We all use Google to search the internet every day and we are all very used to just pumping in words and hitting \u2018Google Search\u2018. We then end up sifting through many results to try and find what we are after.<\/h3>\n

This process can take several attempts with slight (or major, depending on the results you achieve) changes to the selection of keywords that you use to allow you to obtain the precise result you were after.<\/p>\n

There is however a selection of \u2018search operators\u2019 or \u2018syntax\u2019 that will allow you to streamline your results without having to delve into the advanced search to produce relevant results and here is a list of some of the most useful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Adding a plus (+) symbol in front of your search keywords will ensure that that particular keyword will definitely be included in the search results. For example the search term \u2018car\u2019 would be a very broad search however if you added \u2018car +classic\u2019 Google would display all websites with the words \u2018car\u2019 and \u2018classic\u2019 in the content<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

By placing a minus (-) symbol in front of your keywords will ensure that websites or pages without those particular words are eliminated from the search results. For example if you searched for the term \u2018trainers -nike\u2019 Google will return results that have the word \u2018trainers\u2019 in but not the word \u2018nike\u2019. You can also add the (-) symbol before websites to eliminate the search from that site as well, for example \u2018trainers -site:wikipedia.org\u2019 would carry out a search for trainers but will not search the site Wikipedia.org at all.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

By adding the (@) symbol before any keywords or phrases it will reveal results relating to social media tags.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
#<\/td>\nBy adding the (#) symbol before any keywords or phrases will result in the search bringing back trending topics, for example #beiber.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\u201c \u201d<\/td>\nBy adding your search terms within \u201cquotation marks\u201d your search will return all pages with those exact terms in that order, for example \u2018imagine all the people\u2019 will return all pages that have the words \u2018imagine all the people\u2019 in that order.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
*<\/td>\nAdding an asterisk as a placeholder for any unknown terms will take this to be a \u2018wildcard\u2019 which means it will return pages containing the sentence where the asterisks will have any words in their place. Example: a * in the hand is worth two in the *<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
..<\/td>\nAdding two periods in between two separate sequential numbers will supply result pages being displayed showing results with all numbers in between those two sequential numbers. For example \u00a310..\u00a3100<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
~<\/strong><\/td>\nAdding a \u2018tilde\u2019 to a search keyword tells Google that you want it to bring back\u00a0synonyms for the term.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Site: <\/strong><\/td>\nBy having the \u2018site:\u2019 prefix a web address or URL then adding the keyword e.g. \u2018site:bbc.com weather\u2019 will return all pages and content related to \u2018weather\u2019 on the bbc.comwebsite.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Link: <\/strong><\/td>\nBy typing \u2018link:\u2019 then a web address in your search, you will receive a list of websites that link to that web address.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
intitle:<\/strong><\/td>\nType \u2018intitle:\u2019 then add your keywords to search for web pages that that you chosen keyword within the title of the page.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Info:<\/strong><\/td>\nBy using this operator \u2018info\u2019 then adding a web address, will return all information about a certain domain.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
